Winter in Kitzbühel

Summer is really over now! Winter is coming and that only means one thing: winter sports season is around the corner. I can’t wait to hit the slopes in Austria again!

Just a few weeks ago I was in the -still green- Austrian Alps for some hiking. We drove through the village of Kitzbühel and it looked so cute, that we decided to make a pit stop for a hot ‘Apfelstrudel’ (my guilty pleasure during that trip;). I imagined myself coming back to Kitbühel when it’s totally covered with a white blanket of snow. But what is Kitzbühel actually like as a skiing area?

Skiing in Kitzbühel
Ever since I was a little kid I’ve been skiing the Austrian slopes every year. Nothing but good memories:) The cozy houses with beautiful wooden balconies, the beds where you sink in down to the tip of your nose, the hospitable people and the wiener schnitzel mit pommes. Oh and last but not least; après ski course :)

Kitzbühel is a top winter sports destination. The ideaal location in the mountains makes this place sure of great snow! With 209 km of slopes (groomed slopes and unprepared ski routes for riders) both beginners and advanced snow fans can eat their heart out. And the super-modern lifts take you to the top of the mountains in just a few minutes. Now wonder this ski area already has been chosen as best ski area in the world three times in a row.

Kitzbühel is more than just skiing
When I’m on a ski trip, I usually have one or two off days. Then I don’t feel like snowboarding the whole day, but rather do something else. And in Kitzbühel you wont get bored :).
On the slopes and in the valley there are about 60 mountain huts. So what about a mountain hut tour and have a drink and snack at every hut? Of course you can also bring your little black dress and high heels, because there is plenty of choice if you fancy a luxurious restaurant.
Every year the best skiers in the world compete with each other during the famous Hahnenkamm race with descents up to 85%. Scary! Or get in the Christmas mood on the fairytale Christmas market. Or what about the Snow Polo World Cup?

I never did it myself, but I would love to do a ski safari! Over a distance of 35 km, you ski from peak to peak and hop into one of the many mountain huts for a bite und ein kleines bier:)
#Night Skiing
In March this year I tried night skiing for the first time in Japan! And it’s so cool! In Europe night skiing isn’t that popular yet, but in Kitzbühel you can do it already! The glistening snow and twinkling starry sky makes it a magical experience.

If you are planning a trip to the Austrian snow, you can find some cool packages here.
