Amsterdam tips by locals

As a tourist you often visit the well-known places in the city. Standing in front of the Eiffel tower, surrounded by 10 other people taking the exact same picture. There are other ways to explore a city. Today I’m showing you a new way to look at my own city, Amsterdam. With these tips you will discover Amsterdam as a local.

#1 Street Art tour | Amsterdam tips by local
Locals know best! Trip4real took me on a street art tour through my own city. Even as a resident of Amsterdam, I immediately saw it in a whole different way. In the daily rush you miss some of the amazing spots, while Amsterdam has so much to offer when it comes to street art. The Jordaan is full of unique artworks. Made by international artists such as Icy and Sot, Space Invader and Zaira. For both the Amsterdam and tourists, this tour is amazing. It costs 14 euros and guide Alex you take 2.5 hours through the center of the city.

#2 Tram 2 through Amsterdam | Amsterdam tips by locals
Do you want to see all of the hotspots in one go while the weather is behaving in a typically Dutch way? Then tram line 2 is a perfect alternative to the well known bike. It connects you to all hotspots of Amsterdam. A glimpse of the Vondelpark, Concertgebouw, the Rijksmuseum and the beautiful Central Station. Want to see something more? Take an umbrella and get off at the Vondelpark for a stroll and a drink at the Blue Teahouse, or a glass of wine of course!

#3 Zuivere koffie | Amsterdam tips by locals
A great lunch spot right in the center of the city, in the Utrechtsestraat. A favorite among the locals. My sister took me here once and I was hooked. An amazing atmosphere, delicious coffee, cakes and sandwiches. And the Utrechtsestreet is nice to just walk through. This street is full of interesting shops. From concept stores to delicacies such as Tromp for the best cheeses.

#4 Het Begijnhof | Amsterdam tips by locals
This really is a hidden secret in Amsterdam. You have to know to find it and not, -like me- forget the location after your first visit. It is a unique spot in the center of Amsterdam. From the huge crowds of the Kalverstraat, you suddenly enter this peaceful quiet courtyard. With good weather you can really escape the crowds. Love it!

#5 Indische buurt | Amsterdam tips by locals
For me this was a first time. This area is all upcoming and full of hotspots. There is a nice flower shop on the Javaplein, Bloemen op Locatie. The concept of this store is refreshing. You can create your own bouquet, with all the different flowers in the shop. Another must-visit in this neighborhood is Ambrozijn. This is a wine and deli shop with the best wines, cheeses and other delicacies. Heaven on earth.
